Why is your earth plaster cracking?

It's a common problem with clay plasters and it can be very frustrating. Earthen plaster is not in fact temperamental or plain weird. The reason people have issues is because there are a few key factors that most people are never taught to recognise. It's not about the recipe, folks!

If you understand the fundamentals, earth plaster becomes simple. If you don’t, it feels like stabbing in the dark (albeit with a finishing trowel).

There are so many incredible, creative things you can do with clay and earthen plasters once you get the knack . You can craft magical clay interiors, repair heritage homes, build cob ovens, inlay mosaics and mirrors, build alcoves and seating areas, create stunning bottle walls and so much more! If you love healthy, natural, beautifully textured walls, it's a skill worth learning.

What You’ll Learn in This Series
Over five short emails, I’ll walk you through the largely undiscussed reasons why plaster works or fails.
Hint: It's not about recipes!

We’ll look at:
• Why plaster recipes often work beautifully in one place and fail catastrophically in another
• How different clays and soils behave (and why that matters)
• Why the application process is fundamental
• What your wall is actually doing when you plaster it
• How drying time affects your plaster
This email series will help you understand what’s happening when your behaves well… and also when it doesn’t.

Once the course if complete, you'll get my bi monthly Mud Home newsletter packed full of natural building information.
