This is a four day introduction to mud building at D'Annies farm in Adelaide Australia. Learning how to create mud mixtures for all sorts of different building and plastering applications is basically life changing. Once you've completed this workshop you'll be empowered to create all manner of mud beauty. For example:
  • Cob sculptures like ovens, alcoves and shelves.
  • Gorgeous, natural and non-toxic interior features.
  • Amazing plasters which completely transform an interior for a wide range of substrates and wall types.
  • Bottle walls and windows.
  • How to make a mixture suitable for building.

What Will You Learn?

  • How to forage for clay in the land around you, and understand when you have clay.
  • How to test your dirt.
  • The difference between clay plaster, cob and adobe.
  • How to mix cob or clay plaster for optimum results.
  • The function of each ingredient in the plaster, and which ingredients to add for different outcomes.
  • How to add the various layers when rendering an earthbag house, stone wall or straw bale home.
  • How to repair and maintain clay plaster.
  • Techniques for sculpting the plaster into...well anything!
  • How to use Japanese trowels.
  • The art of burnishing.
  • How to use sponges to create beautiful finishes.
  • How to embed things like mirrors or tile into the plaster.
  • How to build structures from cob.

That would be me:) Atulya K Bingham. I am a clay plaster expert with over 12 years of clay plastering and mud building experience. This is a hands on course, so you will get dirty:) So don't just bring your best frock and high heels. D'Annie's farm is a special very rural place with composting toilets, and a bush kitchen. More specific details on what to bring will be sent to course participants once they enroll.
